What a great addition to the burbs!! I love the live music, it actually feels like you are somewhere cool....not downtown Rockville. The service was a little slow, but the drinks came right away. I had the chicken enchiladas....very good. The whole area was hopping a lot more than I expected.
For those that are not sure about this place, try their Sunday Brunch.
It is really good, the only thing that would make it better is lots of free mimosa's.

My dish wasn't so great (carnitas tacos) but the ribs my friend had seemed pretty good. The service was good and the place is big and open. The indigestion that the meal left me with though wasn't so good.

I really don't remember much about the food (I think I got a chicken dish) but our service was great and I loved the choice to eat outside.

I am not a fan of Tex-Mex food, so I probably can't rate the food all that accurately. The service was pretty good, the atmosphere was great, and Rockville Town Center was really nice. The happy hour was pretty weak. Would I return? No.

The new Austin Grill opened August 13, 2007 in the new Rockville Town Center area. Being a Mexican food freak, I had to go for opening day - and ended up going back the next day too!
My co-worker arrived for lunch around noon both days. I must confess I was a little nervous because my only other Austin Grill experience (the downtown DC location near Gallery Place) was absolutely awful. Fortunately, I was not disappointed. The service was great on both occasions and the staff eager to please. The second day we sat outside on the nice little patio area, and I think because it was less noisy than inside you could more easily tell the staff is still working out some kinks. However, they were extremely friendly and helpful. The only mildly annoying thing (and it was the patron, not the staff, causing the annoyance) was when some jerk (who just sat down at an outside table without even going to host station) then demanded that the umbrella be moved so HE could sit in the shade, thereby depriving the surrounding patrons, all of whom had been there longer, of their shade. Some people just don't get it!
Inside, the restaurant is nicely decorated in bold (but not necessarily bright) colors. As is typical of newer restaurants it's very open inside and thus a little noisy. The interior felt a bit small but they do have an upper level. They also advertise live music daily.
We were both pleased with the food. The chips and salsa were both very fresh. My co-worker, a native Texan, was thrilled they had egg & chorizo tacos (i.e., breakfast tacos) that she could get for lunch. I tried the tacquitos appetizer, which was OK but had way too much grease and not enough chicken. But I really liked the casserole-style enchilada-of-the-day, which was carnitas. Yummy!
Overall it's great having Mexican food in walking distance of my office and it's worth a stop in (or two!) There is definitely better Mexican to be had out there but the new Rockville Austin Grill is a good choice if you're in the area. I'm looking forward to stopping in for Mexican breakfast for weekend brunch!
